TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Hatta Radjasa stated that the new Finance Minister must be able to maintain national fiscal security because whoever it is, will have a special authority attributed by prevailing laws and regulations.

"Other than treasury skills and being the 'goal keeper' [of Infonesia's fiscal], law also gives the Finance Minister an authority regarding fiscal incentives," Hatta said in the Ministry, Tuesday, May 14.

He confirmed that President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono will appoint a new Finance Minister soon enough. Hatta also added that the President would not appoint an individual originated from a political party.

"Whoever it is, must be professional, competent, has integrity, and has a good understanding of fiscal issues," Hatta said.

Earlier, Chairman of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) Chatib Basri was believed to be one of the candidates. On Monday, May 13, Chatib stood next to Hatta when Hatta was explaining the qualification to be a strong Finance Minister candidate.
