TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-Muhammad Nazaruddin has not been transferred from Cipinang Penitentiary, Jakarta to Sukamiskin Penitentiary, Bandung, a place for many known corruption convict. Deputy Minister of Law and Human Rights Denny Indrayana, stated on Monday, 22 April that thare are several reasons behind the delay.
Denny explained that there are six requirements that have to be fulfilled in order to put an individual in Sukamiskin Prison, a prison for corruption convicts. The requirements states that the convict must be involved in an important case, sentenced for a minimum five years in prison, caused a minimum of Rp 100 million (US$ 10,300) state losses, has a remaining sentence time of one year, the lawsuit has been completed, and the convict must be a male.
Denny stated that Nazar is still involved in another case, and his transfer to Sukamiskin will hinder the process of gathering information related to the case. “We are concerned with technical problems that may occur,” he said. “This rule applies for everyone, not only Nazar.”
