TEMPO.CO, Tangerang – The city of Tangerang is planning to build a reclamation island covering an area of 9,000 hectares in its north coast. The island will be used as a location for a large, international-standard port.
"This year, the reclaiming process will cover 1,500 hectares to be used as a port," Tangerang's Urban Design Board director Akip Samsudin told Tempo on Friday, April 19.
The port, Akip said, will serve as a back-up port for the Tanjung priok Port in Jakarta. Akip said the project will be carried out by PT Tangerang International City, working under Salim Group. The entire process will take about five years.
"I haven't received the budget figures for the physical construction. But I can say that it will be completed in 2016," he said.
Akip continued that the board is the process of obtaining all of the required licenses from the Marine Affairs Ministry and Transportation Ministry.
