TEMPO.CO, Banyuwangi - Achmad Wiyono, head of Banyuwangi's Disaster Relief Agency, said the government is building a tsunami shelter in Pancer Village, Pesanggaran sub-District, this year. Wiyono said the construction budget is derived from the BNPB, amounting to Rp 10.7 billion.
"It will be located on the hills," Wiyono said on Wednesday (4/10).
Pancer village and 40 villages around it are tsunami-prone areas. In 1994, hundreds of people died in the area from tsunami waves. According to Wiyono, the shelter will be built using anti-quake quality materials and designed to withstand earthquakes. The shelter will be able to accommodate approximately 2,000 refugees.
