TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A video displaying flood in Meikarta area managed by Lippo Group in Cikarang, Bekasi District, went viral on social media. The 27-second video creator said it was a flash flood.
“Meikarta stroked by a flash flood, hurricane, and storm. Entertainment festival in Meikarta is totally ruined,” said a person in the video Tempo received today, December 13.
The heavy flow of brown-colored water overflowing with the grass was taped in the video. A number of merchants collapsed, and several traders packed their products.
Bekasi Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) officer, Andika, said the flood hit Meikarta area on Wednesday afternoon, December 12, for a short period. He visited the area at 19:00 local time, and the water had receded.
“The water only passed the area,” said Andika in a phone call with Tempo today, December 13.
Andika said the lacking capacity of drainage, which did not equal to accumulated rainwater discharge, had caused the Meikarta area inundated by the flood.
