Darmin: Hopefully Papua Tragedy Not Beset Development Project

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Darmin Nasution pinned hope the tragic incident in Nduga, Papua Province, did not beset the progress of development acceleration project throughout Indonesian regions.
“And I invite you to pray for the victims of the incident. Hopefully, the incident will not disrupt the project of development acceleration in Indonesia,” said Darmin in Bidakara Hotel, Tuesday, December 11.
Darmin delivered his wishes today during a book launching event entitled Kemajuan Infrastruktur Nasional, Geopatral Kebijakan Satu Peta. In the occasion, he received an award of Bhumandala Rajata. President Joko Widodo, House of Representatives (DPR) speaker Bambang Soesatyo, Regional Representative Council (DPD) chairman Oesman Sapta Odang, ministers of economic affairs, and regional heads also attended the event.
Previously reported, workers of the infrastructure development project in Nduga, Papua were killed by armed groups on December 1. The victims were employees of state-owned enterprises PT Istaka Karya.
The government ensured the bridge construction, which is part of Trans Papua projects, would start to be re-constructed this week.
Aloysius Kiik Ro, the SOE Ministry's deputy for business development and restructuring, explained as suggested by the Public Works and Housing Ministry and President, the project will be continued with the assurance of security enhancements.
“We have an agreement with Commander of Indonesian Military Forces (TNI) and National Police Chief to guard the area,” said Aloysius on Friday, December 7.
Istaka Karya also ensured the bridge construction project in Papua would be completed within the target set by the government. The project would be soon continued, despite halted post the shooting against workers.
