TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Home Affairs Ministry director general for population and civil registration, Zudan Arif Fakhrullah, confirmed that the finding of a sack full of electronic Identity Card or e-KTP in Duren Sawit, East Jakarta at the end of last week was purely a crime.

"That is pure criminal acts. It is not related to electoral matters and does not affect the election," Zudan said during a press conference at the National Police Headquarters in South Jakarta, Monday, December 10.

Zudan denied that the security system for population and civil registration (Dukcapil) was failed following the discovery. He ensured the e-KTP was falsified and that was not connected to the data center. "E-KTPs found in Duren Sawit are printed in 2011-2013," Zudan added.

He then asked the National Police Criminal Investigation Unit (Bareskrim) for coordination to investigate the source of the finding. "We suspect that it is deliberately thrown away," Zudan said, adding that Dukcapil would strengthen supervision from the central to regional levels. "We will control the standard operating procedure."

Dukcapil encouraged all public service institutions to use a card reader so that they would not be deceived if there were people using the fake e-KTP.

Meanwhile, Deputy Director General of Bareskrim's Criminal Act Unit Sr. Comr. Agus Nugroho said the total of e-KTP found in Duren Sawit amounted to 2,168 pieces; 63 of them were damaged and the rest were fake.

In addition to the discovery of e-KTP wasted in Duren Sawit, there were three cases of alleged misuse of e-KTP, namely the sale of e-KTP blank via online, e-KTP duplication business, and forgery of e-KTP at Pramuka Market.

Zudan further said that the suspect of the blank e-KTP had been identified. The perpetrators sold ten pieces of the e-KTP card through e-commerce, Tokopedia. Likewise, Bareskrim also arrested people who produced a fake e-KTPs. Meanwhile, the case of e-KTP cards found at Pramuka Market was no longer valid.
