TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Aceh Police have declared 75 prisoners who escaped from Banda Aceh City Class II A Penitentiary last week as fugitives. The police had also released a most wanted list and posted it to social media.
“We are also distributing the list to all district police stations," National Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Syahardiantono said at the Police Headquarters in Jakarta, Monday, December 3.
On November 29, 113 inmates broke out of jail after some prisoners provoked other inmates to run away by breaking doors and windows.
"They ran away before the mass evening prayer," The Law and Human Rights Ministry`s Directorate General of Corrections spokesman Ade Kusmanto told Tempo on Friday, November 30.
Thirty-eight prisoners have been recaptured and put back behind bars. The police are on a manhunt for the remaining 75.
The Law and Human Rights Ministry's Directorate General of Corrections appealed to 75 of the prisoners to voluntarily return to prison.
