TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian National Transportation Safety Commission (KNKT) issued two recommendations following the deadly crash of Lion Air flight JT610 on October 29 during the press conference of the accident`s preliminary investigation public report.

“The first recommendation is to maintain the implementation and manual operation part A subchapter 1.4.2 in terms of improving [the carrier’s] safety culture and to guarantee that a pilot can make proper decision to continue with a flight,” said KNKT’s flight subcommittee investigator Nurcahyo Utomo on Wednesday, Nov. 28.

Secondly, KNKT guarantees every operational document are properly filled and commented upon. “There was a mismatch between the Lion Air manual book and the conditions of the previous flight route from Denpasar to Jakarta,” said Nurcahyo.

Nurcahyo maintained that with its damaged angle of attack sensor, the airplane should have returned to the airport and abandon flight.

Other than that, he highlighted a discrepancy between the cabin crew of the Lion Air flight and the actual condition, ”It was recorded to have five stewardesses in its weight and balance, while the document states there are six.”

The FDR data analysis also revealed that the Lion Air flight JT 610 had two angle-of-attack sensors with 20-degree differences that stayed constant up until the end of the recording. Just right after take-off, the plane’s left column stick shaker was activated and happened almost throughout the entire flight prior to the crash.
