TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Jokowi wanted to improve the skills of job seekers and workers through massive vocational education and expertise certification in 2019.
“I request that next year, this will be carried out on a large scale,” the President said in an introduction of the limited meeting on Human Resource Development for Economic Growth Acceleration at the Bogor Palace, West Java, Wednesday, November 21.
The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing has conducted vocational training and issued professional certificates for construction workers. But Jokowi assessed the amount was still not enough.
In this program, Jokowi wanted to involve the business sector and education, including Islamic boarding schools. “So that we expect the students not only to study religious education but also skills,” he said.
This step is one of the two keys in building human resources (HR) to be used as a major power of Indonesia towards accelerating economic growth and pursuing prosperity.
Another key is to improve the education system by revitalizing vocational education. “Which is tailored to the needs of the industry and technological development,” said Jokowi.
Jokowi claimed that all this time his administration has begun to reform and improve the vocational education system. However, it has not been done on a large scale. The limited meeting was attended by a number of ministers.
