TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Transportation Department (Dishub) recorded that 305 points in Jakarta are prone to flood. Dishub Acting Officer Sigit Wijatmoko said, 30 of them became the locations of puddle and flood each year.

Sigit said his office would implement traffic engineering. “This is to overcome floods,” he said at the Jakarta Police office, South Jakarta, Friday, November 16.

The points are spread in five areas in Jakarta. In North Jakarta, Dishub will focus on Kelapa Gading and Tanjung Priok area, while in East Jakarta, it will focus on Cipinang Melayu and Kampung Melayu area. In South Jakarta, the flood is commonly found in Kemang and Bangka. In Central Jakarta, the flood is commonly found on Jalan Abdul Muis.

According to Sigit, the flood often occurred because the drainage works have not been completed but the rainy season has arrived, such as on Jalan Bangka and Abdul Muis. Because of that, the rainwater is not accommodated in the channel.

“It causes an overflow of water into the road. We anticipate it with deploying officers and conduct traffic engineering,” he continued. Dishub also provides vehicles as flood evacuation tools.

They also prepare rescue vehicles and signs to anticipate the effects of the flood. Dishub will deploy officers and volunteers in each municipality in the area to standby in handling the flood.
