TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Disaster Victim Identification team found difficulties to identify the bodies of Lion Air JT 610 victims.
“20 percent of the post-mortem DNA samples that were taken yesterday could not be used because they were contaminated with salt and degraded. So we took it again,” said Head of the DNA Laboratory of the National Police Medical and Health Center, Senior Commissioner Putut Cahyo Widodo, Wednesday, November 14.
According to Putut, if one method of identification is not successful then the other method can be used. Because there are 16 identification techniques through DNA samples.
“There are many ways to identify someone through DNA. But if everything has been done and has not been successful, then we will raise the white flag (surrender),” Putut said.
The Head of Disaster Victim Identification Team, Senior Commissioner Lisda Cancer, said that the team currently only relies on DNA test results to identify the victims of Lion Air JT 610. Whereas the identification technique through the fingerprint and teeth have not been able to be carried out since last Saturday.
“The identification process is still ongoing. We cannot determine the deadline yet,” she said.
