TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) spokesman Febri Diansyah said one of the reasons that many regional heads committed corruption was due to ineffective monitoring measure in the regions.
“We find many cases that regional inspectorate unenthusiastic to fulfill its duty on monitoring and guiding their superior,” said Febri in Bogor today, November 14.
In fact, Febri added, inspectorate units should become more independent thus its duty could be run smoothly.
Febri said KPK elites had met Home Affairs Minister, Minister of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform, and related institutions to talk on the revitalization of the Government Internal Supervisory Apparatus (APIP).
KPK expected regional inspectorate units could no longer reluctant and beset to supervise mayors or regents since the law noted their status as an independent unit and had no responsibility for their superior.
“KPK has been proceeding around 102 regional heads. Based on our identification result, they have to undergo legal proceedings due to weak supervision,” Febri said.
Other than revitalization on APIP, the anti-graft body kept supporting the Law and Human Rights Ministry to complete draft of Government Decree on gratification control.
