TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo visited the Lucky Plaza shopping center looking for Indonesian specialties in Singapore, crispy fried duck, Tuesday afternoon. During the visit, Jokowi was accompanied by his son, Kaesang Pangarep and chose the Pak Ndut Fried Duck outlet on the first floor.
"We want to see how Indonesian cuisine invades other countries. We’re looking for Indonesian food,” Jokowi said, Nov. 13.
The president chose to dine at Pak Ndut Fried Duck outlet located on the first floor. He opted for the kremes fried duck with sides of fried tofu and tempeh, a bowl of sayur asem, as well as raw vegetables and sambal.
People at the mall were surprised by the president’s arrival. A number of Indonesians there even asked to take photos with Jokowi.
An Indonesian woman who has been working as a housemaid in Singapore for 7 years, Wiwi Sulandari (38), was very happy to have met Widodo, who asked her to dine along with the presidential entourage.
Jokowi was also accompanied by Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi, Minister of State Secretary Pratikno, and the Indonesian Ambassador to Singapore Ngurah Swajaya.
After the meal, the president returned to the Conrad Hotel to attend the 33rd ASEAN Summit. Jokowi arrived in Singapore yesterday to attend the summit. He will be in Singapore until November 15.
