Jokowi Visits Bandung`s Cihaurgeulis Traditional Market

TEMPO.CO, JakartaPresidential candidate number 01 Joko Widodo (Jokowi) conducted a "blusukan" (impromptu visit) at Cihaurgeulis traditional market in Bandung, West Java, on Sunday morning.

Jokowi arrived at the market around 07:30 local time. He went around in the muddy market, greeted a number of vegetable sellers and asked about the prices of a number of products on the market.

The presidential candidate who is also the incumbent President, approached a number of kiosks in the market such as vegetable stalls, meat stalls and stalls selling chicken.

During the visit, he bought a number of products including sweet potatoes, kale, and spinach. A meat trader, Umiati (42) said that the market was proud of being visited by the President.

"Only this time a president came to the market here," she said.

After reviewing the market, Jokowi visited Car Free Day activities on Jalan Ir H Djuanda.

The vehicle of the presidential entourage stopped under the Pasupati flyover and then the presidential candidate No. 01 walked north to the area known as Jalan Dago.

The local residents who were in the midst of doing activities on the Car Free Day are swarming the path Jokowi has traveled.

There are some young people in Bandung who have been waiting for the incumbent President`s arrival.

A number of people asked to shake hands and take pictures with the presidential candidate 01.

Jokowi arrived in Bandung on Saturday to attend the Heroes Day event.

On the occasion, he called on youth in the country to continue to uphold high spirit that is the essence of the commemoration of Heroes` Day.

"Remain spirited to advance the nation, to make Indonesia an advanced country, to innovate, create, produce, work, and be optimistic," he remarked after being part of the Bandung Sea of Bicycles event to mark Heroes` Day that falls that day.

At the event, President Jokowi rode an old bicycle in an khaki costume of an independence era fighter, replete with a cap, a pistol holster, rank, and Red and White national flag badges.

He explained that he had worn the costume to mark Heroes` Day.

"Today, Nov 10 is Heroes` Day. Hence, we tried to revive the atmosphere of 1945, the atmosphere of independence struggle. That is why I wore this," he noted.
