TEMPO.CO, Bandung - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) predicted an increase in the rainfall intensity in several Indonesian regions throughout this week, November 5-9. The rainfall in Sumatra, Kalimantan, and Papua were presently still high, while Java had a potential for heavy rain and lightning and strong winds.

BMKG meteorology deputy Mulyono R. Prabowo via a press release mentioned several factors affected the rainfall in the country for the next three days including the low flow of dry air mass from Australia, the form of wind in a certain point in Java areas, and the cyclonic circulation in the western waters of Sumatra, Kalimantan, and Natuna Island.

Those factors contributed to the high intensity of rainfall in Sumatra and Kalimantan regions. “The rain with 20 millimeters per day still shower Sumatra, Kalimantan, and Papua areas,” said Mulyono on Monday, November 5.

Mulyono said in the next three days, the rainfall intensity would extend to Java regions due to the extended slow flow of wind and wind point from the eastern to the western regions of Java, increasing air humidity in the island.

The potential of the high wave with the height of 2.5 to 4 meters was expected to occur in the waters of Enggano-Bengkulu, west waters of Lampung, west of Lampung Indian Ocean, southern Sunda Strait, south waters in Java island until Lombok, Bali Strait, and southern of Lombok Strait.

Mulyono appealed to the public to remain alert and careful on the impacts of heavy rainfall such as flood, landslide, flash flood, strong winds, fallen tree, and slipery roads.
