TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Minister of Research, Technology and Higher Education (Menristekdikti) Mohamad Nasir was reluctant to comment on the suggestion made by the winning team of Prabowo Subianto - Sandiaga Uno regarding the presidential debate to be held on campus.
"The [presidential] debate is the authority of the KPU (General Election Commission)," Nasir said on the sidelines of the Opening of the 2018 Indonesia Expo Innovation Innovator (I3E) in Yogya on Thursday, October 25, 2018.
Nasir said that the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education (Kemenristekdikti) did not administer the presidential election. "In principle, the campus cannot be used for campaigns, by anyone, whether a presidential or vice presidential candidate, political party, it is not allowed," Nasir said.
However, Nasir later stated that should KPU is to organize a presidential debate in campuses, it can coordinate with the Ministry.
Nasir stated that during the 2019 election campaign period, his party would still comply with the applicable regulations.
"We follow the applicable regulations, the campus cannot be used for campaigns and it cannot decide on its own," Nasir said.
