TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Residents of Cimangurang Village, Babakan Madang, in Bogor District bewildered by a natural phenomenon of moving ground previously occurred in Tangerang and Depok.
“Local residents have felt [the ground moving] since last Saturday,” said Babakan Madang Head Administrator Yudi Santosa on Tuesday, October 23. “The ground slowly but constantly moved apart and now has created a meter-wide crack in the ground.”
Yudi further explained that the moving ground has structurally affected at least 25 houses and one Mosque with visible cracks on building walls. There were also four structures that were severely damaged that forced the owners to be evacuated.
Bogor District’s Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) Budi Pranowo said that the area of Babakan Madang is considered to be on a vulnerable area with constant land movements. “We need to study this together with a geology team, but have yet to do so until now,” he said.
Furthermore, Budi said that the BPBD has yet determined an official status for the affected area but has urged the people of Babakan Madang to evacuate to safer locations. According to the BPBD, there are 15 districts that are considered to be highly vulnerable to land movements with the recent finding to be the actual physical event.
