TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Corporate Communication Head of state-owned aluminum producer Inalum, Rendi Achmad Witular said that his company and the government are confident that the 51 percent divestment of Freeport Indonesia will be achieved in time.
“Nothing can annul the sales and purchase agreement that has been agreed. The only thing that can cancel it is doomsday,” said Rendi when Tempo reached him on Sunday, October 21.
Furthermore, Rendi said that there are no sanctions that will be imposed if the divestment gets dragged over the agreed deadline and the same goes if either side cancels the deal.
On Friday last week, House of Representatives (DPR) Speaker Fahri Hamzah questioned the Freeport divestment deal through his Twitter account. Fahri’s tweet was merely the conclusion of a meeting between Commission VII DPR Members on the unrealized Freeport Indonesia divestment.
Answering Fahri’s question, Rendi said that the deal clearly states that the divestment process will go on until the end of this year and that Inalum never claimed that the divestment process was done. Inalum, according to Rendi, had already informed the deal’s details to the members of DPR’s Commission VII on Wedensday, October 17.
