TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The police plan to question National Mandate Party (PAN) patron Amien Rais about Ratna Sarumpaet's false claims that she was assaulted. Jakarta Metro Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Argo Yuwono said that as of today evening, October 5, the police are still waiting for Amien to arrive at the Jakarta Police HQ.

"We want to question [Amien Rais] about what Ratna Sarumpaet told him," Argo said here on Friday.

Ratna claimed that she was assaulted on Sep. 21 in Bandung's Husein Sastranegara Airport. Her story went viral after photos of her swollen and bruised face were posted on the internet.

But the police revealed that Ratna was not in Bandung during the date she claimed to have been assaulted. What the police have proof of is Ratna Sarumpaet was at the Bina Estetika Surgical Hospital from Sep. 21-24, where she got cosmetics procedures done to her face.

On Oct 3, the female activist admitted to lying, and confirmed that the bruises on her face were the effects of a liposuction procedure that she underwent in a surgical hospital. She apologized for telling a lie that had caused public uproar.

"I plead that what I am telling you today can end the commotion that has happened over the last two days, and that we can forgive each other," she said with a trembling voice.

Last night, the police arrested Ratna at the Soekarno-Hatta Airport's Terminal 2. She was waiting to board a flight to Santiago, Chile.

Ratna Sarumpaet has been named a suspect for violating the Criminal Code's article 14, and article 45 of the Information and Electronics Transaction Law.
