
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Metro Police spokesman Sr. Comr. Raden Prabowo Argo said the police have named Ratna Sarumpaet as the suspect for allegedly spreading hoax or false news.
Ratna would be charged with Article 14 and 15 of Law No. 1/1946 on the regulation of criminal procedure and Information and Electronic Transactions or Cyber Law (UU ITE) article 28 in conjunction with article 45. “She may serve 10 years in prison,” said Argo in a press conference at Jakarta Metro Police Headquarter, South Jakarta, on Thursday, October 4.
Earlier, Police arrested Ratna Sarumpaet in Soekarno Hatta International Airport before her flight to Santiago, Chile, on late Thursday, October 4.

Argo mentioned the police had issued a travel ban letter for Ratna Sarumpaet. The letter had been sent to the immigration office which from there the police acknowledged Ratna whereabout and conducted the arrest.
According to Argo, the status determination of Ratna Sarumpaet as the suspect was based on police examination towards president director of Bina Estetika Hospital, three nurses, and doctors. “She [Ratna] enters the hospital in a good healthy condition,” he added.
Ratna Sarumpaet recently became the public spotlight. She admitted for creating hoax news on being assaulted in Bandung, West Java on September 21.
The attack against her was spread by her colleagues as well as a number of national politicians, including presidential and vice presidential candidate Prabowo Subianto and Sandiaga Uno.
Ratna Sarumpaet admitted her lie in a press conference on Wednesday, October 3, shortly after Jakarta Metro Police disclosed irregularities in the case. The bruised and swollen face were due to facial surgery in the hospital which specializing in cosmetics surgery in Menteng, Central Jakarta – not because of assault.
