TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Col. Inf. Muh. Thohir, head of the Military Area Information XIII/Merdeka, said that as of October 1st the number of lives taken by last week's earthquake and tsunami in Palu, Central Sulawesi, reached 925.

“Based on the reports from Korem 132 Tadulako, as per October 1, 2018, at 18:00, 925 lives were lost while 799 people are injured. A hundred and fifty-two people 152 people are still buried under debris and 99 are missing," he said in a release Tempo received on Tuesday, October 2.

The disasters, he said, damaged 65,733 homes, displacing 59,450 people. "They are now living in 109 evacuation areas."

The city of Palu also suffered heavy damages to its infrastructures and public facilities. Many roads are not accessible to vehicles and bridges and buildings collapsed, including hospitals, hotels, malls, the station of national TV network TVRI, and the airport, and the SIS Al-Jufrie Airport.

An earthquake measuring 7.4 on the Richter scale shook Palu City and Donggala Regency, on Friday, September 28. The earthquake also triggered a tsunami, with waves up to 2 meters high crashing on Palu Beach and Donggala Beach.
