TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Facebook has activated the Safety Check feature after the 7.4 Richter scale earthquake hit Donggala, Central Sulawesi, on Friday, September 28. The activation was done at 5:34 p.m. on the same day.
The feature is an easy way to inform that you are in a safe condition and to check the situation of others after a natural disaster occurs. Here are the steps to activate the feature on Facebook:
1. Facebook receives a warning from Facebook’s reporting agency of global crisis that an incident occurs in a certain location.
2. Facebook monitors the post related to the incident.
3. If there are enough people in the affected area post about the incident on Facebook, the Safety Check will be activated.
4. If you are safe, you can choose “Tell Friends You’re Safe”.
5. You can also see which friends mark themselves as safe, invite more friends to the Safety Check, find, and provide assistance.
Based on Facebook data, until now, there have been more than 250 requests for help coming through the Community Help.
