TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) leader Rizieq Shihab is allegedly barred from leaving Saudi Arabia, the country where Rizieq has spent his days after the Indonesian Police named him a suspect in mid-2017.
According to FPI secretary-general Novel Bamukmin at the Jakarta Metro Police headquarters today, Rizieq was barred from leaving Saudi Arabia in three occasions. He gave an example of Rizieq’s recent flight on July that was canceled. “Out of the blue he was barred from traveling overseas,” said Novel on Wednesday, September 26.
He said that the blockage had been enforced since July 2018 when Rizieq Shihab was set to fly to Malaysia to complete his dissertation. At that time, Saudi Arabia’s immigration officers barred him from boarding the plane.
Furthermore, Novel Bamukmin said that Rizieq Shihab was still uninformed of the reason for his travel ban. He explained that the National Movement to Safeguard Ulema Edict (GNPF Ulema) and FPI have met with House of Representatives (DPR) deputy speaker Fadli Zon to discuss the issue on Tuesday.
According to Novel, FPI and GNPF requested the DPR to summon the National Police Chief, Foreign Affairs Minister, and the Indonesian government representative in Saudi Arabia for an explanation behind Rizieq Shihab’s travel ban.
