TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Head of Ministry of Law and Human Rights Regional Jakarta Office Bambang Sumardiono, stated that there are no luxurious prison rooms in Jakarta's penitentiary.
"It's gone. We have removed it, regularly," said Bambang on Friday, September 21, 2018.
Bambang said that the prison officers also held routine operation to prevent drug trafficking.
The case of the luxurious prison room in penitentiaries was revealed following the arrest of Head of the Sukamiskin Prison in Bandung, Wahid Husen by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). Wahid was arrested as a suspect for granting luxurious facilities and granting exit permit for prisoners.
KPK also discovered luxurious facilities such as a gazebo, where prisoners can welcome guests.
According to former North Sumatra Governor Syamsul Arifin and former Bekasi Mayor Mochtar Muhammad who once occupied Sukamiskin, the gazebo was built jointly by the prisoners.
