TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Surabaya Mayor Tri Rismaharani was grateful that the Surabaya District Court dropped the class action filed by former Dolly residents, known as a red-light district in the East Java's capital, against the Surabaya administration.
“Alhamdulillah (thank God) the case was dropped. I just hope, this is not for myself, you don’t have to write it down if it is not necessary, but what I am doing is for the children that are not just in Dolly but all over Surabaya,” said the Mayor while giving a public lecture at University of Surabaya (Ubaya) today.
According to Risma, Dolly was shut to save the future of the children who live in and around the prostitution area.

“It is frightening if you knew [the situation there] but I will not reveal it. Let’s just move on and fix what needs fixing. But we must be aware that there are things that need to be saved, including the future of those children,” Risma added.
Risma said the closure of Dolly was aimed at saving the life of the children that can affect the future of Surabaya and produce a "lost generation". Despite going to school in areas away from the former prostitution area, the children can influence other children living and going to school in other areas, she said.
"If this was only for Risma, what did I break my hand for? This is for Surabaya. I'd rather be killed than see [the future of] Surabaya children destroyed," Risma said.
