TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The International Olympic Committee or IOC has banned the violent games such as Overwatch and Counter-Strike on eSport because they are considered too violent.

“Games that are referred to as killer or murder, from our point of view, are contrary to Olympic values because they are not acceptable,” IOC President Thomas Bach said, as reported by Metro.co.uk, Tuesday, September 4.

The IOC has taken seriously the possibility of eSport becoming a sport in the upcoming Olympic event. According to the Associated Press, it is unclear what Bach meant by the games categorized as a murder or discrimination.

“Of course every combat sport has its origins in real battles among people. But a sport is a civilized expression. If you have e-games about killing someone, it cannot be harmonized with our Olympic values,” Bach said.

The Olympics will be held in Tokyo, Japan in 2020. eSport has also been exhibited in the 2018 Asian Games, and will likely compete in the 2019 SEA Games in Manila, Philippines.

Bach seems to focus on some games that have been frequently competed, such as League Of Legends, Dota 2, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, Overwatch, Starcraft II, PlayerUnknown Battlegrounds and Fortnite.

There are only a few popular eSports that seem to qualify because they are based on real-world sports, such as FIFA and Madden NFL.
