TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Transportation Agency head Andri Yansyah confirmed the city administration would prolong the odd-even policy that was enacted to support 2018 Asian Games on August 18-September 2, until October.
Andri said the policy in several city’s roads would be further extended after the establishment of 2018 Asian Para Games, which will commence on October 6-13.
“We all agree to continuously apply the odd-even policy during the transition period of Asian Games to Para Games,” said Andri as quoted from Koran Tempo, Friday, August 30.

The decision was made in the forum group discussion (FGD) meeting held by Jakarta Transportation Agency with several stakeholders on Wednesday, August 29. Attended the meeting were Traffic Directorate of Jakarta Police, Police Traffic Corps, The Greater Jakarta Transportation Agency (BPTJ), and PT Transjakarta.
The policy was extended since the traffic flow was getting better. Based on the agency's data per August 28, the vehicle speed along the roads affected by the policy increased by 37 percent on average and the travel time decreased by 23 percent.
In addition, the rate of traffic incident also dropped by 10 percent as well as the death victims due to traffic accident by 20 percent.
Andri said Jakarta Transportation Agency planned to conduct a survey to explore public responses related to the odd-even policy after the 2018 Asian Para Games ended. Thus, he added, the regulation would possibly be enacted permanently.
