  • TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta administration decided to revoke Gubernatorial Decree (Pergub) No. 55/2018 on the housing tax adjustment, which stipulates the increase of rent for 17 low-cost apartments (rusunawa) throughout the capital.

"The governor orders to conduct evaluation so we will review the decree. In the meantime, it will be suspended. It is revoked," said Jakarta Housing and Settlement Agency acting head Meli Budiastuti at the City Hall in Central Jakarta on Thursday, August 8, 2018.

Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan issued Pergub 55/2018 on June 7, 2018, which state that new rent adjustment would take effect in October 2018. The city administration planned to disseminate the decree in August until September 2018.

Meli said that the policy revocation would be valid for the occupied low-cost apartment mostly rented by relocated residents. The rent will still refer to Regional Decree No. 3/2012 on Tax Regulation.

"There are residents who really need help, especially those relocated people who have low-income under the provincial minimum wage (UMP)," Meli added.

Meli explained Pergub 55/2018 was issued in consideration of the rent of low-cost apartment in the capital, which had never been adjusted since 2012, while in fact, the tariff adjustment should be imposed once in three years at most, based on the Regional Decree No. 3/2012.
