TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Ulama Council (MUI) Chairman Maaruf Amin announced that his office is set to hold a meeting with the Ministry of Health to determine the halal status of the MR vaccine for rubella and measles.
The vaccine was faced with rejection by the Riau Islands MUI since the MR vaccine is yet to be certified as halal by the Central Food and Drug Analysis Agency (LPPOM).
Riau MUI suggested its residents not to participate in the measles immunization that is mentioned in the circular letter sent to the Riau Islands Governor on July 30.

“Yes, we are currently in discussion. God willingly, there will be no crucial issue,” said Maaruf at the Presidential Palace Complex on Wednesday, August 1.
However, Maaruf confirmed that the MUI has yet issued a halal certification for the MR vaccine. He added that MUI will reconsider the use of the vaccine, despite the lack of certification, if there are no other options available.
He hopes that the meeting with the Health Ministry will come up with a solution. “Yes the health ministry will meet the MUI, and MUI will provide a solution. Done,” said Ma’aruf.
