TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - China-based IT company and South Korean telecom operator Korean Telekom will partner with PT Telekomunikasi Selular (Telkomsel) to test the 5G network during the 18th Asian Games in Jakarta.
"We will be supported by two big companies, Huawei and Korean Telecom," Ismail, the Communication and Informatics Ministry's director general of Resources and Post Equipment and Information Technology (SDPPI) said in Bogor Thursday, July 26.
According to Ismail, the 5G network test will only be done in Jakarta throughout the Asian Games. Although there is no cellular gadget that can tap 5G network, he said that there will be a special booth where Asian Games spectators can experience the fifth-generation technology.
"The handset is not here yet, but there will be a booth with its facilities. [The network] is not available in Palembang yet—we focus on Jakarta," he said.
Huawei has had 5G tests in a number of countries. The company had previously signed partnerships with 45 cellular operators such as the UK's BT, France's Orange, and Canada's Bell.
