Police Confirm Arrests of Terrorists in Blitar, Karanganyar

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Chief of the National Police Gen. Tito Karnavian confirmed that the police have arrested several suspected terrorists in Blitar, East Java, and Karanganyar, Central Java.

"We revealed and arrested several suspected terrorists and we have evidence. We assured that people will have security," Tito said at the Al-Ikhlas Mosque in the National Police Headquarter on Friday, June 15, 2018.

The first arrest was made in Blitar, East Java on June 13, 2018. The Special Counter-Terrorism Detachment 88 (Densus 88) arrested five Blitar residence suspected to have links to a terrorist network.

The suspects were AR, MSZ, NH, HW, and K. During the arrest, Police discovered a number of evidence including a book on Jihad, an FN firearm, and eight 9mm bullets.

Based on initial investigation, the arrested suspects were members of the Jamaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD) in Blitar. "AR and his friends is a member of Blitar JAD," said Chief of Public Relations of the East Java Regional Police Sr. Comr. Frans Barung Mangera in a written state,ent on Thursday, June 14, 2018.

The suspects were said to have targeted banks and vital institutions in Blitar.

Meanwhile, on June 14, 2018, the Densus 88 had also arrested a terrorist suspect identified as Z. The arrest was made at the suspect's house around 7:30 PM Western Indonesia Time.

"We take preventive measures. If they are ready to move, then we need to anticipate by taking immediate action," said the National Police Chief of Public Relation Division Insp. Gen. Setyo Wasisto on Friday, June 15, 2018.
