TEMPO.CO, Surabaya - A former terrorist inmate Ali Fauzi Manzi asked Islamic organization Muhammadiyah, to be involved in handling the criminal acts of terrorism. According to Ali Fauzi, Muhammadiyah`s moderate way of thinking can be used against radical groups.
“Muhammadiyah has the antidote but it never optimized,” said Ali Fauzi after the seminar about terrorism at the Muhammadiyah's East Java Region Main Building in Surabaya, on Saturday, May 26.
Ali Fauzi, the ex-head instructor of bomb assembler group Jamaah Islamiyah (JI), advised to let Muhammadiyah involved in handling the extraordinary crime, “I was once a terrorist inmate, but I was healed by Muhammadiyah,” he conveyed.
Fauzi admitted he changed after met Muhammadiyah Surabaya University’s lecturer when he continued his master study in the university. He hoped the Islamic organization that was founded by KH. Ahmad Dahlan could prevent terrorism. Ali Fauzi emphasized that it can be an alternative way to help the government dealing with criminal acts of terrorism that occurred in Indonesia.
Ali Fauzi was appreciating Muhammadiyah by conducting seminars about understanding and handling criminal acts of terrorism. "This is my first time (invited) in the Muhammadiyah community. It needs to be developed," he said.
