Jokowi Obliges Pertamina to Sell Premium in Java, Madura, Bali

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo has reportedly signed a policy on the obligation to supply Premium gasoline. The policy was a revision to the Presidential Decree (Perpres) No. 191/2014 on the Supply, Distribution and Retail Price of Fuel Oil.

“I got the news last night from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) that the president has ratified the Perpres No. 191/2014, perhaps later the minister will explain it,” said the head of the Downstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Agency (BPH Migas), Fanshurullah Asa, in his office today.

In light of the policy, Pertamina is also obliged to sell Premium gasoline in Java, Madura, and Bali, whereas earlier the state-owned oil and gas company was required to supply Premium gasoline outside of those three regions.

To date, 1,900 of the 3,900 Pertamina gas stations in Java, Madura, and Bali no longer sell Premium gasoline, compared to last year's 800 gas stations.
