TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - After executing a suspect responsible for holding the funds for terrorist group Jemaah Ansarut Daulah (JAD), Indonesian National Police spokesman Insp. Gen. Setyo Wasisto said that the group’s main funding is sourced from member’s contribution.
“So far, we found that the funds originate from its own members,” said Setyo at the National Police Headquarters on Tuesday, May 15.
The suspect, identified to be Budi Satrio, resisted arrest and was shot dead by the Densus 88 anti-terrorism squad members that raided his home at the Puri Maharani housing complex in Sidoarjo, East Java, on Monday morning.
Furthermore, Setyo said that the investigation upon the terrorist funding is still in its early stages and cannot confirm yet whether other terror groups are involved in funding the JAD terrorist cell in Surabaya.
In the police raid, Densus 88 managed to confiscate several explosive materials and armed explosives that were ready to be detonated. Police believe that the JAD terrorist group has initiated multiple attacks in response to the arrest of its leader.
The JAD terrorist cell in Surabaya is strongly believed to be responsible for the numerous suicide bombings in several Churches and a police headquarter in Surabaya on May 13 and May 14. The terror attack unfortunately left 17 innocent lives dead and left dozens others wounded.
