155 Prisoners at Mako Brimob Riot Surrender Without Resistance

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Wiranto stated 155 prisoners and terrorist inmates in the police mobile brigade command headquarter or Mako Brimob, Depok, West Java, had surrendered without resistance after the officers issued the ultimatum.
“The officers issued the ultimatum, not negotiation,” said Wiranto in Mako Brimob today, May 10. The minister inspected the detention center accompanied by the National Intelligence Agency (BIN) Head Budi Gunawan and National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) head Comr. Gen. Suhardi Alius.

In his official statement at Mako Brimob, Depok Thursday morning, Wiranto asserted that there was no negotiation ever took place with the terrorist inmates since the riot began. He stated 145 prisoners surrendered without resistance. “While ten others resisted but then surrendered after the police issued the ultimatum.”
The Mako Brimob prison riot broke out on Tuesday night, May 8, for 36 hours and killed one prisoner and five police officers.
Furthermore, Wiranto mentioned the police had taken back 30 weapons seized by the terrorist inmates during the riot. “The weapon does not belong to the police or military, but it was the confiscated goods of the authorities during the countermeasure operation,” Wiranto added.
