TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - National Narcotics Agency (BNN) said the price of narcotics type of crystal meth is more expensive than a gram of gold.

BNN Deputy of Community Development Dunan Ismail stated the price of methamphetamine is Rp1.8 to Rp2 million per gram, while a gram of gold is at Rp400,000 to Rp600,000. “So why narcotics enter Indonesia? Because its market share is large,” he said in Bandung after the campaign regarding illegal drugs with Citilink Indonesia on Sunday, April 15.

Dunan explained that based on a joint research conducted by BNN and University of Indonesia, the prevalence rate of drug users throughout 2017 reached up to 1.77 percent or in other words, 3.3 million of Indonesians are drug abusers.

“The prevalence rate in 2014 is around 2 percent or 5 million users. But the recent study recorded around 3.3 million people using illegal drugs. So based on the data, the number has decreased. This is our achievement,” he said.

According to Dunan, the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) has set a parameter for BNN to keep the prevalence rate at 0.05 percent by 2019, thus the agency needs cooperation with all parties to tackle the problem.

One of the ways conducted by BNN is through the rehabilitation centers. Dunan stated the drug users will not get a legal sanction if the person willing to be rehabilitated, therefore, he called on people to immediately report the user to the police or the agency.
