TEMPO.CO, Denpasar - Cell-phone operator Telkomsel in Bali and Nusa Tenggara region is eyeing the development of the huge potential online gaming segment, specifically Mobile Legends.
“The growth of e-gaming has been fascinating. It recorded a 200 percent user and revenue growth from 2014 to 2018,” said Indra D. Hariadi, Bali and Nusa Tenggara’s Telkomsel Digital Manager today, April 7.
Indra said that since 2017 up to the quarter of 2018, the number of Mobile Legends users grew 72 percent while its income grew by 44 percent. However, Indra did not reveal the exact number of its user statistics as it is considered to be part of their internal strategy.
He revealed that the mobile online-gaming sensation had generated hundreds of millions of rupiah from the purchase of mobile phone credits in the form of internet quotas.
Despite the fact that the game franchise might develop and deviate to other new gaming formats, Indra said that his company is optimistic that this segment will continue to attract new opportunities since the digital ecosystem has developed.
In order to accommodate Mobile Legends fans, the region’s Telkomsel has held tournaments as a positive channeling event that was participated by 1,600 players divided into 320 teams from Bali, West Nusa Tenggara, and East Nusa Tenggara. They have the chance to win the total prize of Rp35 million.
The massive number of participants, according to Indra, indicates that the digital ecosystem for online gaming among the millennial generation has formed.
