TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The 212 alumni brotherhood (PA 212) announced to stage a rally Aksi Bela Islam (defending Islam) on Friday, April 6. The rally is their response to the poetry delivered by Sukmawati Soekarnoputri who allegedly defamed Islam.
“About 10,000 people will attend [the rally],” said PA 212 representative, Dedy Suhardadi, when met after issuing the report in Police’s Criminal Directorate, Central Jakarta, Wednesday, April 4.
He further explained the meeting point set in Istiqlal Mosque. After performing Friday prayer, the protester will conduct long march to the National Police headquarter.
“This rally aims to support Police investigating the blasphemy case, whoever the doer is,” said Dedy.

A poem entitled “Ibu Indonesia” recited by Sukmawati went viral since the content considered defaming Islam by mentioning Islamic sharia law, veil, and the sound of adhan [prayer call]. The poetry read in the ‘29th Work of Anne Avantie' event in Indonesia Fashion Week 2018 on March 29 led several parties to report her to the police.
Sukmawati has voiced her regret that the poetry sparked controversy among the public and considered as defaming Islam. “I am sorry to Muslim communities especially to those feeling offended by the poetry,” she said, weeping her tears in Warung Daun, Cikini, today.
Sukmawati Soekarnoputri stated she did not intend to defame Islam through her poetry. The daughter of Soekarno said she is a Muslim woman, grateful and proud to be Muslim.
