TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A research entitled Journey of Me Insight done by research institution YouGova and travel agency group Amadeus revealed several facts and characteristics that uniquely belong to Indonesian travelers in 2017.
“We questioned 6,870 travelers who have traveled by air throughout 2017 from 14 Asian-Pacific countries,” said Andy Yeow, General Manager of Amadeus Indonesia at Hotel Pullman on Thursday, March 29.
Here are what Indonesian travelers search for and what their characteristics are like when they travel.
1. Open to private information
Indonesian travelers are known to be very open with their private data, especially towards travel service providers. That sense of openness is expected to make travel agents aware of what is relevant to their wishes, such as the fondness towards cheap hotel recommendations.
2. Happy to get recommendations
Indonesian travelers love to ask for advice through social media. Amadeus recorded that 60 percent of Indonesian travelers would often tend to trust friends or family’s recommendations on matters such as budgets, amenities, and sense of security at a certain tourist spot.
3. Always connected to the internet
This reason is mainly for navigational reasons, such as browsing local maps and other information related to their destination. “Interestingly, the concern of Indonesians to always stay connected to the internet surpasses tourists from other countries that waiting for job-related information,” said Yeow.
4. Open to suggestions
Indonesians are really open to suggestions about the trip they plan. “Even after the trip ended, 74 percent of them are still eager for suggestions,” said Yeow. Especially if this is delivered through social media platforms.
5. Easily satisfied
Furthermore, the data from Amadeus suggests that Indonesian travelers are easily satisfied by the level of service they receive from hotels or other accommodations, compared to other Asia-Pacific tourists.
6. Dare to take risks
Indonesian travelers generally tend to be more courageous in taking risks compared to tourists from other countries, especially when visiting destinations recently affected by terror-related incidents. Indonesians have a small chance of avoiding destinations with high safety risks but they tend to avoid destinations with extreme weathers, especially cold regions.
