5 Interesting Places Around Mount Ijen Banyuwangi

TEMPO.CO, Banyuwangi - Mount Ijen area, located on the border of Banyuwangi and Bondowoso, is still closed for climbing. The closure was done after Mount Ijen released sulfuric gases on Wednesday evening, March 21.

"The closure is done since early Thursday after a number of Bondowoso residents living in the vicinity of Banyupait River, which is in Ijen area, reported that they were affected by the gas," said Head of Conservation of Natural Resources Region V East Java, Sumpena on Friday morning, March 23.

Sumpena said the closing of the climbing track to Mount Ijen for the public is still valid up to today until the unspecified time. He explained it is an annual phenomenon occurred when the rain falls with high intensity.






However, no need to worry if you want to go for a vacation to Banyuwangi. You can visit some other tourist destinations around Ijen Crater. Here is the list:

1. Sritanjung Park

Located on Jalan Sritanjung, Banyuwangi, Sritanjung Park is about 13.3 kilometers from Ijen Crater.

It is located in front of Pendopo Banyuwangi Regency, a right place for those who want to please the eyes with flowers of various colors and fountains.

2. Plengkung Beach

The beach is located in Alas Purwo National Park, Banyuwangi. The distance from Ijen Crater is about 11.9 kilometers. It is a favorite location for surfers in Indonesia.

It is also called as the G-Land, the wave here is said to be one of the best in the world. Its height reaches 4 to 6 meters with a length of 1 to 2 kilometers. Even in June to July, the waves form a 7-layer formation that follows each other.

3. Taman Sari Village

The village is located in the area of Mount Ijen, Licin District, Banyuwangi, East Java, and flanked by Penambang Village, Bunga Village, and Susu Village. It was inaugurated as a tourist village in mid-2016.

Tourists can see the unique culture of the Osing community, the indigenous people in Banyuwangi District. There are also world-class music performances namely Ijen Summer Festival.

4. Anyar Village Waterfall

The waterfall is located in Anyar Village, Glagah District. There are three waterfalls in this location, namely Jagir Waterfall, Sumber Pawon Waterfall, and Bidadari Waterfall.

There is also Kalibendo Waterfall that has a height of 10 meters.

5. Beach Boom

The beach is about 14.4 kilometers from Ijen Crater. Precisely on Jalan Dr. Sutomo, Mandar Bundaran PLN Village Banyuwangi.

Pelindo III built a marina on Boom Beach. There is also a Catamaran boat port as the sea-lane accessibility between Banyuwangi and Bali.
