Street vendors in Tanah Abang, Jakarta.

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Deputy Governor Sandiaga Uno said the city administration had begun disseminating information on its planned reorganizing of street vendors [PKL] in Jatinegara, East Jakarta. He added the program would kick off with the provision of adequate training and mentoring for the vendors.

The affected area is popular as the Jatinegara Triangle. which includes the Gunung Antang area up to the area on the East Bekasi Street. The city administration has earmarked Rp527 million for this program.

According to Sandiaga, this program will also cater to pedestrians' needs. “The concept is to honor pedestrians' needs, followed by accommodating small vendors that are trained and mentored, which will also be given a temporary space and location where they can be mentored,” said Sandiaga Uno on Monday.

Sandiaga said the city administration would apply a time limit to the street vendors to sell their goods at certain hours. He said the time would be adjusted to the rush hours when pedestrians were at their most.

“In certain hours, we will give a chance for street vendors to sell their goods that will be adjusted to the flow of pedestrians and the intended integrated transportation available,” he said.
