TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia`s first wind turbines will be launched in the second week of March, the Energy and Mineral Resources announced. The wind farm is located in Sidrap district, South Sulawesi.
"This is our pride as well as proof that the government is serious about developing renewable energy," The ministry's director general of renewable energy and energy conservation Rida Mulyana said when visiting the 75-MW wind farm on Thursday, March 1.

The wind turbines will be operated by UPC Sidrap Bayu Energy. The wind farm has 30 turbines, each with a capacity of 2.5 MW. With a height of 80 meters and 57-meter blades, the turbines were made by Gamesa Lolica Corporation.
"In addition to Sidrap, there will be three other wind farms in South Sulawesi; Sidrap stage 2, Jeneponto and Tanah Laut," Rida remarked.
Sidrap wind farm is the first and largest in Indonesia, built on approximately 100 hectares of land. The wind farm is expected to strengthen the electrical system in South Sulawesi, adding the province's electricity reserves by as much as 500 MW in 2018.
