TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Jakarta Deputy Governor Sandiaga Uno said he will ask buildings owners around the Melawai district to provide space for the street vendors of Sunan Ampel Street. The reason for this idea, Sandiaga said, is that most of the buyers are employees of offices located in Melawai.
"I want to appeal to the owners, please provide a place to eat for their workers, their employees," Sandiaga Uno said at the Central Jakarta Mayor's office, Friday, March 2.
Sandiaga said that if employees were not provided with a place to eat inside the building, they would go out for lunch. He said a simple law of supply and demand applied in this case.

When asked about the possibility charging rents to the street vendors, the deputy governor promised to find a solution.
Sandiaga Uno has also asked the Melawai district's chief not to relocate the street vendors if they are organized. Sandiaga defended the street vendors after merchants put up 'OK-OCE' banners to eschew raids by Satpol PP officers.
