IMF Lauds Indonesia`s Economy

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - International Monetary Fund (IMF) acknowledged Indonesia`s achievement in the last few years on the economy and social sector. IMF Managing Director Christine Legarde said, in the midst of economic growth, it is the high time for ASEAN countries to develop the national economy.

"Especially on the macroeconomic, monetary and infrastructure side," Legarde stated in a written statement received by Tempo on Tuesday, February 27.

At the High-Level Conference forum with the theme “New Growth Models in Changing Global Landscape”, Legarde said that from the regional aspect, ASEAN countries including Indonesia were considered to have a good economic resilience and become a leading for other countries, such as in the implementation of inclusive economic growth.

In the forum, BI and IMF discussed Indonesia achievements and other ASEAN countries in the economic field, particularly on economic growth, economic diversification, and poverty alleviation.

Finance Minister Sri Mulyani, BI Governor Agus Martowardojo and Governors Board members, as well as Coordinating Maritime Affairs Minister LuhutPandjaitan also attended the forum at Hotel Fairmont, Jakarta.

The forum discussed the policy issue of countries in the world in facing the current macro and structural economic conditions as well as strategies development to increase economic growth as to build resilience against changes in the global economy.

Bank Indonesia Governor Agus Martowardojo said Indonesia is ready to host the IMF-World Bank Group Annual Meeting 2018 (IMF-WBG AM). This event is expected to provide knowledge for all participants not only related to the current topics but also the natural resource and culture of Indonesia.

The conference held by BI and IMF is part of Voyage to Indonesia, a series of events, workshops, and conferences to promote Indonesia prior to the October 10-14, 2018 Annual Meeting in Nusa Dua, Bali. IMF-WBG AM 2018 is expected to bring about 15,000 visitors to Indonesia including leaders and practitioners in economics, organizations, and international mass media.
