TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Institute for Development of Economics and Finance (Indef) expert Bhima Yudhistira Adhinegara stated that expansion of export market takes priority to improve export performance. Alternative markets with the promising potential to expand include South America, East Europe, Russia and Africa.
“Currently almost 70 percent of our market is all the same including China, India, Europe, and the United States,” he said on Friday, Feb. 16. He went on by saying that international trade needs to be optimized.

Bhima continued that export quality is not healthy at the moment since it heavily relies on the raw commodity. “So if the commodity price tends to decrease as now or not as good as that in 2017, it causes our export to decrease, it needs to end by providing additional value,” he said.
He expressed that the government needs to seriously boost processing industry and other export oriented industries. “The permit will be facilitated, a fiscal incentive will be added, investments will be boosted.” By taking such measures, export value and quality can improve. Trends of export growth still heavily rely on raw commodities as palm and coal which are estimated to reach 7 percent this year.
