TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The West Jakarta Police thwarted the smuggling of 1.3 tons of marijuana from Aceh to Jakarta. The police arrested six suspects.

Head of West Jakarta Drug Unit Adj. Sr. Comr. Suhermanto said the smugglers were arrested at Bakauheni Port, Lampung, on New Year's Eve.

"They had with them dozens of kilograms of meth crystals hidden in a car," Suhermanto said yesterday.

According to Suhermanto, the smugglers from Aceh are controlled by two men named Mun and Ilham Maulana.

The disclosure of this network is the result of an investigation that followed an earlier drug bust at the Gambir Train Station in Jakarta, in March 2017.

The smuggling, Suhermanto said, is part of a drug syndicate with networks in several provinces. The syndicate has been dealing large quantities of marijuana from 500 kilograms to 950 kilograms, using a box truck.

Two days after the bust in Lampung, the police arrested two other suspects, Rocky in Cikarang, Bekasi; and Rizky in Jagakarsa, South Jakarta. Then, the police arrested another man in Tebet, South Jakarta, under suspicion of being a marijuana holder/buyer.
