TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and first lady Iriana arrived in Istanbul on Tuesday to attend the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Summit regarding the Palestine-Israel conflict.
“This is the first chance for OIC country members to collectively and assertively reject the decision taken by the U.S. President Donald Trump who recognized Jerusalem as Israel’s capital,” said President Jokowi at the Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force base on Tuesday, December 12, before departed for Istanbul.
Jokowi will address that Indonesia is standing against the arbitrary decision taken by the US Government. He will also urge OIC countries to stand together to defend the rights of the Palestinian people.
“We will also suggest several steps that can be done together or individually to defend Palestine,” said the president.
Jokowi is accompanied by the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Human Rights Affairs Wiranto, State Secretary Pratikno, and the President’s Special Staff Johan Budi SP.
