TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi responded to a criticism expressed by House of Representatives (DPR) Deputy Speaker Fahri Hamzah in relation to Kahiyang Ayu and Bobby Afif Nasution’s wedding. Fahri earlier said that the wedding that will be held on Wednesday, November 8, is an extravagant one.
President Jokowi clarified by saying that his daughter’s upcoming wedding is relatively modest.
“[Whether a wedding] is modest [or not] is a subject of relativity. We’ll hold the wedding ceremony in a village at our own building. We’ll use our own catering service, and we organized the wedding by ourselves,” he said in a press release on Tuesday, November 7.
The president claimed that the wedding will not be different from most weddings. According to Jokowi, the wedding ceremony is nothing special.
“So, please don’t compare it with other [weddings]. We’re holding the wedding ceremony in a village. So, that’s how it is,” President Jokowi said.
Earlier, Fahri, as quoted by Antara, criticized that as many as 8,000 people are invited to Kahiyang Ayu and Bobby Nasution’s wedding ceremony. According to Fahri, the number of invitations is not in accordance with a circular letter issued by the State Apparatus and Bureaucratic Reform Ministry on the modest living movement.
