TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Police arrested social media activist Jonru F Ginting after questioning him as a suspect of alleged hate speech.
"Yes, he was officially arrested last night (Friday)," Jakarta Police special crimes unit head Sr. Comr. Adi Deriyan said in Jakarta on Saturday, Sept. 30.
Adi stated that the police arrested Jonru based on both objective and subjective considerations including possibilities of removing evidence, fleeing or conducting a similar crime.
Jonru was originally questioned as a witness of hate speech on Thursday, Sept. 28. The next day, the police named him a suspect as two incriminating pieces of evidence.
Meanwhile, Jonru denied to have written hate posts in social media on Muannas Al Aidid. In addition, Jonru legal team said that their client has never insulted Joko Widodo in his capacity as the head of state, but he delivered criticisms to the presidential candidate during his campaign.
